Occupation: Executive Director of The Community Library.
Ideal Ketchum day: My dog, Bill, demands that we start the day with a run – which turns out to be a pretty good way to get going, jogging along a trail on the edge of the Pioneer Mountains, watching the west side of the valley slowly start to glow with the rising sun. Then I’d pack a lunch (maybe a wrap from Wrap City, or, because this is a dream day and anything is possible, I’d find a way to transport the chile relleno from Rasberry’s) and take a stack of books checked out from The Community Library – where anyone can get a library card for free! – and head up to Alturas Lake with my husband, Mark. It is bliss to me to be lost in a great novel while I am surrounded by the sounds of the lake, the scent of the lodgepole pines, the warmth of the sun. (Even in the winter, a picnic on the “beach” of Alturas, following a cross-country ski, is divine!)
In the evening, I’d return to town for one of the many great cultural events that is sure to be happening: a lecture by a writer, a talk on current events, a musical program, an artist’s talk on an exhibit...there is always something happening to stimulate our brains and encourage conversations. I’d like to follow the program with dinner with friends in the wonderful historic context of Enoteca, which used to be the main mercantile for sheep ranchers in the valley. Because this is a dream day, I’d want it to be possible to bike home to Hailey after dinner along the beautiful BCRD bike path.
